What are you currently working on?
INSIDE: WIND Telecomunicazioni (company of mobile phones) I’m a designer and intranet developer ( www.wind.it ),
OUTSIDE: I’m a freelance and dj.
What excites you about design?
The color, the digital world and the ability to express myself through the various cultures and times that we live in. I love grunge design, the typographic world and the old press.
What do you do outside of design?
Travel and I’m a dj.
How would you describe your work?
I think that the web is like the world, I like to collect pieces of this world and assemble them in one big collage to my satisfaction. Every one of my work describes a true fact or virtual travel of my state of mind that I'm in when designing.
If there was one thing you could change about the web, what would it be?
All the browsers...I would want IE from version 6 over (joke). Like I said before, for me the web is like the world, and I think that today it's not easy to change it. The important thing is to use it with caution, the web has many roads, and it's up to you what road you take.
Your designs are always so creative and vibrant with color, where do those ideas and inspirations come from?
I'm born inside art, my father and mother have a gallery and it's possible for this that I have my many inspirations. A greater source of inspiration for me has been web and the its artists.
You have some amazing flash work. Do you find Flash to be your core program when designing for the web?
Before perhaps yes, flash is a great arm to communicate on the web but it ignores an important side: “the usability”. Now I prefer flash for small portions of my works on web, and I concentrate my study on the use of css and xhtml (separate content from design). I usually use flash for offline works or small projects.
What would be your ideal job?
I would love to keep designing for many many years to come and I hope to be able to continue to learn and to widen my background within design.
And finally, what do you think of Urban Collective?
UC for me has been a great source of inspiration and a great gallery to publish my works. I am perhaps one of the oldest visitors. I think that it's a good point of reference and inspiration for all, every month various ISSUES is a beautiful challenge for all.
My compliments to Michael and may he continue to do a good job. Ciao a tutti Emiliano Pennisi.
